no supported DVD recorders detected on my system

Same issue with a Dim 8400 with a Philips DVD burner but using the Sonic program. The burner is missing from system hardware devices as well. A reboot brings it back.
Go figure.....

To add with Dave`s, click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, article 1; Section 20, article 3; Section 11, article 2.
Consider checking Dell`s site or the vendors for updates / patches to your burning software and/or you may need to uninstall / reinstall your burning software. If a drive is coming and going from the system, consider opening the case and re-seating the IDE cable going from the motherboard to the back of the drive(s).
