no boot device detected - after boot - hard drive not detected

I have XP - Home Edition.
I disconnected the two "plugs" that connected to the hard-drive and connected them to another hard-drive which had another Operating System.

Later, I reconnected the two plugs to the XP- Home Edition Desktop hard-drive, and upon startup the monitor displays a messages "no boot device detected ...".

So I ran an installation CD for XP-Home Edition, and tried to (1) Repair and (2) Install Windows then I got the message "hard drive not found blah blah".

Any help, appreciated.

Recheck all the connections to the hard drive and motherboard  by unplugging and reseating them.

I have checked and rechecked the connections to the hard-drive; still nothing.

What is the reading of the power button LED, green, blinking green, solid amber, blinking amber?  What is the sequence of the diagnostic LEDs at the back of the case?

Also, please post the computer model.

This may be silly question, but why did you remove and replace the HD?
