My latitude does not boot up

Hello,

I have a latitude cpxj computer, I have been trying to boot up, the three green lights stay on for about 5 seconds, the hard drive light and battery light would go off, then the power light go off in about 10 seconds after.  Then it is dead.

I could not boot from the floppy bootdisk.  The floppy drive does not even look like being accessed.  It seems there are lots of people having the same problem.  Does anyone know what the problem is, and any solution to it?

Thanks........

slowparis,

Thank you for using Dell's Community Forum.

It could be many things causing this.
First, take your system off the docking station if you have one. Then take out all peripherals like printers, scanners, mice, keyboards, pc cards, and any other 3rd party devices you have added. Also, take out the battery and disconnect the ac adaptor and wait for 2min. then add only the ac adaptor back on, and try to boot.

If, the system doesn’t boot at that point, you should contact us because you most likely would need a repair.

When it unplug everything I can finally boot my laptop up. The problem becomes every time I shut down my computer I have to go through the entire process again and again. Is dell aware of this issue? If so are they addressing a fix for it?
Thank you in advance,
John
