The hard drive could be failing or has failed, if under warranty contact Dell for a replacement.

first, hit F12 when the blue dell logo appears then select IDE harddrive diagnostics. run the test
if u see an error like return to code 7 or any similar error. try running chkdsk /r (check troubleshooting guides for details) if fails, call dell for replacement
