DVD/CD error message Code 37
I'm not sure exactly what happened or when it happened but I just noticed the my CD/DVD drive was no longer working. I have the Phillips DVD+RW SDVD8820 ATA Device installed. I just noticed when I popped a disc in nothing came up.
I went to "My Computer" and noticed did show up. I went to the device manager and saw a yellow exclamation mark next to the drive and looking at the details it read: Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware (Code 37)
I uninstalled and rebooted and got the same error message.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Mike Flannigan

Wow; that's a lot for a non-expert. However, I want to thank you for the info and it's about time I take the step to edit the "dreaded" registry.
I will try it sometime today.
Thanks again,

Skybird:
Thanks for the information for Code 37. I edited the registry (removed "lower filters" (there were no upper filters) listed. Rebooted and my DVD/CD WAS recognised by my computer.
You not only solved my problem, but you gave me confidence for potential future problems with the registry.
Thanks !
Sincerely,
