DVD not working properly... nothing but multi-colored static
A few weeks ago, I watched a movie on my DVD drive on my XPS 410 (Vista) and everything was fine. A few days ago, I tried the same movie and all I get now is a multi-colored static picture... multi-colored dots all over the screen. I have tried several other DVDs with the same result. I do not even know where to begin to check for the problem. Is it a hardware or software problem? Does anyone out there know what the problem could be or where do I start looking for a solution?
Below is a screen shot of my computer when a movie is trying to play. The audio is fine.
Thanks for the help.

Hi,
Did you try both Media Center and Windows Media Player? Same results? I'd first do a system restore back to a time before this problem. If unsucessful I'd run the Dell dignostic and check the drive out. Have you check Device Manager?

I am having a similar problem on my studio excpt I get a green screen and then an Error = 0100 tells me to reboot whcih I do and no change. It worked fine a few days ago and I don't think I changes anything but I will try the restore and se what happens.

OK, the multi-colored static occurs on both Media Center and Windows Media Player. I ran a Dell dignostic on the DVD drive and everything is OK. No problems shown in the device manager. I reinstalled the DVD driver and the video driver and that did not help.
Should I next start removing Windows updates? If so, is there a particular one I need to look for? (There's a lot of them.) Is that the same as a system restore? If not, can someone point me down the correct path to a system restore?

Another update. I figured out how to do a system restore and when back as far as it would let me (12/19/08). Still no luck. How 'bout that uninstalling Windows updates thing? Does anyone think that might work?

Please help guys! Anyone out there think uninstalling some Windows updates will solve my problem? I really don't want to call Dell for $49.00 and ask them.
