DVD Drive not compatible with Chromebook

I recently purchased an 11inch Chromebook from DELL, and an accessory suggested to buy with it was the Dell External USB DVDRW Drive, and since I do like to watch movies on my laptop as I don't own a tv, and there aren't any laptops that are made with an internal DVD drive anymore, I bought it.

So I assumed that it would actually work with the laptop it was suggested for, maybe I was stupid for assuming this, but it does not work, the drive is not compatible with chrome. Is there a way to make it work with the chromebook? Perhaps an app I can buy? Or did I waste $50 on something I can't even use?

If so, I suggest, to anyone that is reading this that might work with Dell, to change the suggested accessories, so that they are paired with something it will actually work with. And if you are buying a chromebook, be careful if you are going to buy any accessories, since they apparently might not work with it.

Click the link below for information downloading apps from the Google Chrome Web Store. Also, click the second link for information to download the VLC codec from the store as well.
