Dell XPS 430 - Vista - Won't boot and hangs at Press CTRL-I to enter Configuration Utility
My Dell XPS 430 recently shut down similar to how it will when Windows does an automatic reboot after an update. The only thing different is that now all of a sudden the boot sequence stops at a command "Press to enter Configuration Utility".
On the same screen it lists the following information:
Intel(R) Martrix Storage Manager option ROM v7.6.1.1001 ICH9R
Copyright(c) 2003-07 Intel Corporation. All Rights Reserved.
RAID Volumues:
None defined.
Physical Disks:
Port Drive Model Serial# Size Type/Status(Vol ID)
0 ST3750630AS 9QK1SZEO 698.7GB Non-RAID Disk
3 WDC WD1002FAEX-0 WD-WCATR4339904 931.5GB Non-RAID Disk
Press to enter Configuration Utility....
- For the record I normally boot to port 0 and it has Vista installed on it. As a secondary drive with Windows 7, I have port 3 set up. Normally it would boot, list these drives and 2 other partitions and allow me to select which drive I wish to boot to. Now all of a sudden its hung up on this and I can't boot to any drive.
Any suggestions?
Please let me know if I need to provide additional information!
Thanks!

Hi adbrown172,
Ctrl I is the RAID configuration utility. Even if you don't have RAID set up, you'll see the prompt briefly during bootup. I think one of your drives may be on the fritz, so I would hit Ctrl I and see what it shows.

Hi.
I Have excally the same problem.
I´ve read on other forums that there could be a problem with a connected usb device, alternative a casemounted e-sata/usb hub.
I´m thinking of upgrading the BIOS to A01 but dunno if this is going to help.
I need som help too.

Hi Icon77,
Ctrl I is the RAID configuration utility. Even if you don't have RAID set up, you'll see the prompt briefly during bootup. If it's hanging at that point, one of your drives may be failing, so I would hit Ctrl I and see what it shows. If Ctrl-I doesn't do anything, boot to the F12 menu and run the Dell diagnostics on your hard drive(s).
When you post back, please confirm the model of your Dell and operating system.

Hi osprey4
I ran the diagnostics but it didn´t show any errors.
Neither did the Raid config util.
I´ve tried to install win vista again but it halted and promted that the current language wasn´t able to be installed.
I´m thinking that the samsung drive is starting to be bad.
The model is XPS 430 with original Win Vista, I installed Win 7 with the same results.

Ok, if this is a Windows language installation issue, I'd suggest you post over in the software forums.
