Installing a 2.5" SSD or HDD in a desktop case

I received a Samsung 840 EVO SSD for Christmas and wanted an elegant way of securing it inside the case of my Studio XPS 8100. Since I already have two 3.5" hard drives, a 3.5"-to-2.5" adapter was not going to work. The available 5.25" bay seemed to be the best option.

I purchased the Rosewill RDRD-12001 2.5" or 3.5” HDD/SSD Drive Bracket For 5.25" Drive Bay from Newegg ($4.99 plus tax). This will work with any 2.5" SSD or 2.5" or 3.5" HDD. It comes with screws to secure the drive in the bracket, and screws to secure the bracket in the case.

Here are the four screws holding the SSD in the bracket (top), and the SSD secured to the bracket (bottom).

The bracket slides right into the lower optical drive bay, and there is a slight click when it's in place.

The bracket is secured in the case with the provided screws through the existing holes.

The power and data cables are attached and it's all set!

Samsung provides a case sticker to impress your friends (well, not my friends).
