vCenter Configuration

Greetings,

On page 23 of the ESA Installation and User Guide there are instructions to Adding an EMC Adapter instance for vCenter.  What is the procedure if my vROPS has 6 vCenters configured?  Would I be required to configure one for each separate vCenter?

Thanks,

Virtuallymatt

Hi Matt,

So it depends on if those vCenters have storage presented from one or more of the arrays configured in ESA.  You only need ESA vCenter adapter instances if those vCenters have storage you want to monitor with ESA.  So for instance, some of our customers use vROps for all their vCenters but only one of the vCenters uses storage from say a VMAX configured in ESA.  In that case the customer would just need an ESA vCenter adapter for that one vCenter and not the rest.  On the other hand if all 6 of your vCenters have storage from arrays you are monitoring in ESA, then yes you need a separate ESA vCenter adapter for each one.  The ESA vCenter adapter makes the topology relationships possible so I can see a particular datastore is backed by a particular device on my array.  Let me know if that makes sense.
