Remove encryption from external drive Dell EMS 8.4.1.6372
My wife is a consultant who worked for a company that required her to encrypt her personal equipment with Dell Data Protection software (8.4.1.6372). Once she left the company (5 years ago), she continued accessing her external Maxtor hard drive with files that were encrypted. A few months ago, I decided to speed up her laptop by installing a SSD and Windows 10 Pro (she was using Windows 7). At the time, I was unaware that she was using the data protection software. I performed a clean-install of Windows 10 on the SSD and loaded all of the applications I was aware she was using. I transferred all of her files from the old hard drive to the SSD and wiped it clean.
Shortly after I completed the upgrade, my wife started complaining that she could not access some of the files on her Maxtor hard drive. I saw that whenever she tried to access a group of files she received an External Media Device Manual Authentication window asking her to enter an access code. She has no idea what the access code is and I have never used Dell Data Protection software before so I don't know what to do. I was thinking that she needs someone at the old company to help, but it's been so long she doesn't know anyone there. She says that when the old company initially had her install the software, she provided a password which she says she still remembers. That password is not the access code that the window is asking for.
Only some of the files are affected on the Maxtor drive; she can access others with no problem. Is there any way to get rid of the encryption on her Maxtor drive? Can I re-install the software on her laptop and use the password she remembers (assuming she can also remember a user name which I assume must go along with the password)? Anything else I can try?
Thanks!
