I'm curious as to when Dell stopped selling to school districts directly.

I'm very disappointed in Dell this year. We have always dealt with Dell directly and most of my team are Dell certified. But, this year we were told that servers and storage must be purchased through a reseller and they are no longer selling servers and storage to schools directly. I guess school districts don't purchase enough to warrant them selling directly to us anymore. They said it would be good for us as we would get better discounts Unfortunately, this has not been true. All it does is add a middle man into the mix that needs to make their money as well as adding another layer of confusion. It takes more time to have to speak to the reseller that then has to contact Dell and relay that information back to us. When we have a question with price, the resellers blame the pricing on Dell and Dell blames the prices on the reseller. Has anyone else experienced this? If not, get ready because we were told this is the direction they were going with selling to school districts.

Well....iam a Dell Partner.

  • Every Dell Storage except Dell Powervault ME5 needs to be delivered though a Distributor and and not from Dell directly any more.  This is also true for Dell it self.  Iam only aware that they made one exception for one Partner(at least here in my country).
  • Dell have now a "Partner first" strategy at least for storage.
  • The story about discounts may vary

It have nothing todo because youre a public customer. Here in my country the publics are the largest group which ends that the Dell sales team was the largest.

Joerg
