ESRS basics

Hi there,

I'm bit confused and I wondered if someone can help, what are the prerequisites for ESRS, I thought that it was a virtual machine installed but more I read I see you need to provide a server to run the gateway. Can someone help me understand? Also do you need to install the policy manager or is it optional?

Basically I need a 101 on ESRS.

Thanks in advance,

Ed

There are two main features of the Policy Manager.  The Policy Manager provides an audit log for all the activity that occurs in your ESRS environment and it will also provide the capability for you to require EMC to obtain permission before they are allowed to remote access to an EMC array.  By default, when the Policy Manager is installed, EMC has the ability to remote access to any deployed array when access is required.  By creating special permissions, you can require EMC to obtain permission before they are allowed to remote access to a device.  There is a great deal of granularity so the permissions can apply to all the arrays or just a subset of the arrays.  Tomorrow, there should be a complete set of documentation on the EMC Online Support portal that covers all aspects of ESRS 3.02.  Right now, there is a Release Notes and Operations Guide on that portal that covers all the features of the Policy Manager version 6.6.

ESRS 3.02 Virtual Edition runs on a virtual machine on VMware or Hyper-V.  The Policy Manager is optional and if used, it would run on a separate physical or virtual machine.

Thanks for the reply, one other question as I know it will be asked, what do you lose if you don't install the Policy Manager?
