How can we configure a failover scenario if public folders cannot be moved?

RepliStor cannot "failover" an Exchange 2007 Server. The Alias failover method is not used with that version of Exchange. The Module documentation does say that Public Folders are not portable and that is absolutely true. However, the Public Folders can be moved to another Exchange server in your environment.

One thing to remember is that all the Exchange Module does in the Exchange 2007 environment is to create the Specifications which replicate and mirror the Exchange databases. If you cannot or choose not to move the Public Folders, you can still manually replicate the Mailbox databases by creating the specifications manually.You cannot manually create an Alias however, since there is no vitalization involved with Exchange 2007.

By creating the specifications manually you can 1) have a DR copy of the databases and 2) can create VSS snapshots on the Target node as point in time DR snapshots. Just remember that in the eventuality of having to run Exchange from the DR node, you will need to use the Powershell commands to re-reference the Users' Mailboxes to the DR node. That is the same as described in the Microsoft documentation that is mentioned in the RepliStor documentation. That must be done manually after Mounting the databases on the DR node.

Just remember that RepliStor can only be used to replicate the actual Exchange databases and transaction logs. That is why only the Mailbox Role is supported on the Source and Target nodes.
