The storage BP1 SAS B0 cable is not connected, or is improperly connected.

System Event Log shows:

The storage BP1 SAS B0 cable is not connected, or is improperly connected.

However when we open up the server, we see no disconnected cables.

Hello, Could you try this pls?

iDRAC GUI: iDRAC > Storage > Enclosure > Setup, then edit from Split to Unified mode.

You will need to Power Off (Restart won’t be enough) the server to apply the change

Hello,

Happy new Year!

I could not find the "Setup, then edit from Split to Unified mode." part.

PowerEdge R440

2.4.8
4.00.00.00

Here is what I got:  GUI: iDRAC > Storage > Enclosure >

Thanks for your feedback. Could you try to use RACADM? In this article explain detailed.  Set Backplane Mode From SplitMode to UnifiedMode Using Dell RACADM – TechMikeNY

  • Run the command “storage get controllers -o”
  • Confirm that the RAID controller status is OK.  Take note of the raid controller identifier, normally it’s something along the lines of “RAID.Integrated.1-1” or “NonRAID.Integrated.1-1”
  • Run command “get storage.enclosure 1 BackplaneCurrentMode”, the command should say current mode is splitmode.
  • Run command “get storage.enclosure 1 BackplaneRequestedMode”, the command should say requestedmode=none.
  • Run command “set storage.enclosure 1 BackplaneRequestedMode UnifiedMode”
  • Repeat earlier step (12) of “get storage.enclosure 1 BackplaneRequestedMode”, and make sure requestedmode is set to UnifiedMode.
  • Run command “jobqueue create <raidcontroller identifier earlier in Step 10 (in our case, RAID.Integrated.1-1)-s TIME_NOW--realtime.” Ensure that the command went through successfully, you should get a response saying “job successfully created”.
  • Run “jobqueue view” until all jobs are completed.
  • Run serveraction powercycle command
  • Run the command “get storage.enclosure 1 BackplaneCurrentMode.” This tells you that the backplane is set to UnifiedMode.

racadm>>get storage.enclosure 1 BackplaneCurrentMode
[Key=Enclosure.Internal.0-1:RAID.Integrated.1-1#Enclosure]
BackplaneCurrentMode=Not Applicable
racadm>>

We dear not give any "set" command, because the server is in production and having workload  on it.

Is there any downtime or reboot necessary?

The command line

racadm>>get storage.enclosure 1 BackplaneCurrentMode

Gives

BackplaneCurrentMode=Not Applicable

It does not exactly follow the instructions. By the instracutions it should give "none" instead of "Not Applicable".

Are we in the correct path with the instructions here?

hmm... then the enclosure doesn't support changing the backplane mode. Or if the expander is capable, the system permits the setting of split mode. However, before installing the second controller, it’s crucial to enable this mode.

The iDrac verifies the expander’s capability before permitting the configuration of this mode, but it doesn’t check for the presence of the second Perc controller.

Might be needed to clear system even log

racadm getsel <options>

If no arguments are specified, the entire log is displayed.

To display the number of SEL entries, type:

racadm getsel -i

To clear the SEL entries, type:

racadm clrsel

We have cleared the logs, but the "Critical issues" still remained.

Firstly, be ensure the firmwares are up to date. Please reseated backplane cables at both ends then I would expect issue will resolved. But if the issue persist, then it could be hardware failure. I recommend contact your local support.
