Only 4 of 8 drives showing up in raid configurator.

Hey its yo boy... again... This server hates me apparently. Finally got my hands on a good raid controller. however only 4 of the drives are showing up. drives 0-3 have steady green lights while 4-7 are blinking when the server is powered on.

This r620 was originally equipped with a 4 bay backplane. I purchased an 8 bay backplane w/ cable and installed it.

If I try to access device settings in the lifecycle controller it freezes and stays on the same page forever.

Thanks again guys.

Hello,

Firstly, ensure that all your firmware is up to date. Sometimes, compatibility problems can be resolved with a firmware update.

Access the RAID controller settings during the server’s boot process (usually accessible via a key combination like Ctrl+R or similar).

Check if the RAID controller detects all 8 drives in the configuration utility.

If not, try resetting the RAID configuration or reinitializing the controller. There could be a few reasons for this issue. One possibility is that the eight-drive backplane and cable were not properly installed or connected. I recommend double-checking the connections and ensuring that all cables are securely connected.

Perform a basic system startup test (minimal POST) to check if the problem persists.

Another potential cause could be a compatibility issue between the new backplane and the RAID controller. It is possible that the RAID controller may not support the eight-drive backplane, resulting in the drives not being recognized. In this case, verify the compatibility of the RAID controller with the new backplane and consider upgrading the controller if necessary.

Hope that helps!
