Dell R620 & R420 - Support for Windows Server 2016

I have two Dell servers, a R620 & a R420. Currently running Win 2012 R2. On the Drivers & Downloads page for each of these machines, you can select Win Server 2016 in the Operating System dropdown, and drivers are listed for that OS.  I was thinking about upgrading these servers to 2016 to get a little more life out of them. Does having 2016 OS & driver selection availability in the Drivers page constitute that Win Server 2016 is supported on this hardware. Especially concerted about compatibility of the H710P Mini Embedded (R620), H710 Mini Embedded (R420) and the Broadcom BCM5720 NICs in both machines.

I found this document: https://dl.dell.com/content/manual83982175-dell-poweredge-microsoft-windows-server-os-support.pdf?language=en-us

which doesn't list these machines in the 2016 section. So I am concerned about what is supported.

Thanks

Lonnie

Hello thanks for choosing Dell.
Whichever that is not stated in the matrix is not supported we can safely assume. If you go ahead and try it our yourself, it's hard to believe to get support by MS either. Sorry I can't be of much help this time. Please visit our community anytime if you need any post sales troubleshooting.

Regarding your inquiry about the compatibility of the R620 server with Windows Server 2016, while I cannot provide a definitive assurance, I can share my experience. I have successfully operated Windows Server 2019 on the R620 for the past two years utilizing drivers sourced from the Windows Server 2016 dell download page. Additionally, I've had similar success with the R420 and R520 servers, which have been running Windows Server 2022 for over a year. The R420 utilizes drivers from the 2016 Server download page, whereas the R520 operates without relying on any drivers sourced from the 2016 Server download pages.

A little late coming back to this thread.  I appreciate your feedback. Being as this is a customer's production systems, I don't want to chance any non-compatibility problems. Moving to Azure anyway. Was just looking to possibly extending the life an usefulness of these systems. Once everything is up in Azure, will most likely turn these into Linux servers anyway.

Thanks
