1800MP projector and Windows8

Hi, does anyone know if I can use my 1800MP projector on my Windows8 laptop? I have the USB to TypeB cable but the projector just sits there saying "Searching for signal".

When I go into the laptop';s Control Panel, it thinks the projector is a keyboard or mouse!
