AIO 926 Inkjet driver incompatible with Windows 10. When will it be updated and tested?

AIO 926: Even after manual install, Windows 10 says that the printer driver is unavailable [not recognized]. Can scan but not print. I have returned to Windows 7 and want to know if Dell intends to update and test the drivers for Windows 10 and when. The properties menu does not give compatibility options for printer drivers.

I have spent hours trying to fix this and even paid for an online tech service which finally found that Dell admits Windows 10 is incompatible with AIO 946, my printer. I called and they urged me not to switch back to Windows 7 because they have to find a solution soon. I think they are trying to get us to buy new printers and think they should have warned us before the upgrade.

Thank you so much PudgyOne!  I followed your directions VERY CAREFULLY and finally I got our Dell AIO 926 to work with our Windows 10 laptop!

FYI, on the referred page with patch and driver files, the link for "patch" SAYS it leads to R166248 (cleanup utility) but the page that comes up doesn't have that driver anymore, so I found it by Googling.

Also on that page, I clicked the link for "64-bit drivers", and on that page selected Vista 64-bit, and downloaded that driver to my desktop (R150575).  Now -- it was a compressed file that, when opened, the self-extractor is set to automatically run Setup.exe after extraction... so once it was done extracting, I had to Cancel out of the Setup.exe, then go to the location where it was extracted, and THERE I could right-click it to go to Properties and set it for Vista SP2 Compatibility, then right-click again and Run as Administrator.

Lastly, I also had to go to Control Panel > Devices & Printers > right-click the Dell 926, go to Printer Properties  "Advanced" tab where the default setting for the print processor was "LEMF", and change it to "NT EMF 1.008".

FYI Administrators -- THIS should be marked as the SOLUTION!

Thanks again!

ejerry,

You should also try the solution for your Dell 946 printer.

I have no guarantee this will work. I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and my printer, which was already installed, works without issues.

The information listed below works for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, so it may also work for Windows 10.

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on).

Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...

Rick,

After upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7 my 926 Photo All-in-One Printer stopped functioning properly (I would get a connection error when I tried to print a document). Following your instructions resolved the issue.

Thanks!

Hi Rick, have a question about those steps to allow a 926 inkjet to work with windows 10. I went through all the steps and am stuck on the "Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected." I am not sure how to enable this compatibility mode in windows 10. I tried downloading the driver first, right clicking it in the file browser, left clicking properties and going to compatibility - but compatibility was not an option.

From what I understand, I need to actually install the Vistra drivers in the vista compatibility mode to get this to work. I have no idea how to achieve this step. Could you help me out?

Thanks, artlib.

artib,

Right click on R150575.exe, then left click properties. You'll see the image below, then click on compatibility.

Click where I have the arrows, then click apply, then ok. Make sure the printer is not connected with the usb cable. Then right click on the file, left click run as administrator.

Rick,

I am experiencing the same problem and followed all of your steps listed above.  Once the file opens, I'm not sure what to do.  I tried the "setup" but received the error message that my new Dell printer is not compatible with Windows 10.  Any advice? I am really frustrated with Dell not having a driver for Windows 10.

Thanks!

Looking like it doesn't work with Windows 10 Threshold 2?  Setup starts and ten seconds later closes with no notifications.  .NET and Java7u80 are installed, compatibility/admin was used.  I also tried to default IE, enable Java in IE and the Setup.exe files in both locations (one is in C:\dell\drivers\R153976\Fax\install\x86).  Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

Update: Had an old copy of R146832 and that one opens setup.exe.  The install froze, the printer was already installed and I ended the process.  It prints!

wkalp,

Try the Vista SP2 Compatibility mode on the setup file?

Rick, Tried that as well and am getting the same message that my printer is incompatible with Windows 10.  I'm never getting the connect your printer prompt.  Once I "Run as Administrator" the exe file it takes me to the file loaded on my computer with many files listed within it including the setup exe I tried running as you said with the Vista sp2 compatibility.  Any other suggestions before I try to go back to 8.1? Thanks!

wkalp,

When I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7, my Dell V715w Printer was already installed and everything worked without issues. I was hoping that the Vista 64-bit drivers would install in the Vista SP2 Compatibility mode

Your Dell Printer was made for Dell by Lexmark and since Lexmark got out of the printer business, there is no more support for newer versions of Windows. Usually with Windows 10, you can install drivers from older operating systems in the compatibility mode.

You tried these 64-bit drivers in the Vista SP2 compatibility mode? How about trying the drivers in the XP SP3 compatibility mode?

Hi.

I have the same problem.  Did everything you suggested and even got the printer to print out a test page.  When I tried to print out a real file (several times), the file would just sit in a queue and not print out.

What next?

rlrosell,

Did you remove stuck print job(s) from the queue, before you uninstall, then reinstalled the printer? If not, then the problem will remain. Delete Print Jobs

Usually the Vista drivers will work for newer versions of Windows if installed in the Vista SP2 Compatibility mode

If the printer does not install on Windows 10, then you will need to replace the printer. The printer was made for Dell by Lexmark and they got out of the printer business. You should have gotten your moneys worth out of the printer using it for such a long time.
