Upgrading Precision 7730 Laptop GPU (P4200 to newer GPU)
I'm a bit frazzled dealing with everything life is throwing at me at the moment, so please excuse me if I don't make a lot of sense.
I have a Dell Precision 7730 Laptop, which came with an NVIDIA Quadro P4200 GPU installed. The GPU no longer serves its purpose due to its age, unfortunately.
Would it be possible to upgrade the GPU to say an NVIDIA RTX A3000 or A5000?
One of the problems I am having is the P4200 will not support newer versions of OpenGL.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

hi,
what worked for you ? and did you come across any promising idea or success story of upgrading Precision 7730 to an RTX.. I see some RTX 3000 (not A3000) listed as for 7730, 7740 machines and one even replied on ebay saying that 7730 has been tested to work with RTX 3000 by them as they are selling it regularly. So that could mean RTX 3000 RTX 4000 RTX 5000 should do fine, provided that that brick it comes with provides enough power to them,

I have upgraded my 7730 from an AMD wx7100 to an Nvidia RTX 3000
Just needed the card and the heatsink/fan assembly
The real problem is drivers, dell driver packages are useless and the combination of laptop and gpu were never a real option. So a bit of a hack is needed

hmm,, super awesome that it worked,, so you are saying that if I have p3200 and I wish to upgrade to a rtx3000 I would also need some heatsink with fan, ?
good that I can look forward to getting one for 7730 and it's good that now we can take our chances with rtx 5000 as well.
Also wondering if RTX A3000 would be possible ?

sorry missed your reply, have you completed the upgrade ?
I am not 100% sure on the heatsink side, I definitely had too as the gpu's board layout is different between AMD and Nvidia - As the RTX3000 has a newer chip architecture it nay need to be changed compaired to the P4200
Again that may be the same issue with the A3000
I also think at some point they changed the shape of the gpu boards, i think they actually change to the whole motherboard / internal layout

@swiftysgt86 this vidoe link should work for you, otherwise maybe as @Saxum7 said, you should be able to run the drivers from the dell drivers support for 7730/7740. I plan to do the same with mine and interested in rtx4000 / rtx5000. Do share you updated experience.
