Request for Assistance: Laptop Not Entering Sleep Mode When Lid Is Closed
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to report an issue with my Dell laptop, which is not entering sleep mode automatically when I close the lid. Despite ensuring that all necessary settings and configurations are in place, the problem persists, and I have to manually put the system into sleep mode every time.
Here are the steps I have already taken to troubleshoot the issue:
- Verified the power settings to ensure the "Close Lid" action is set to "Sleep" for both battery and plugged-in modes.
- Updated all relevant drivers, including the BIOS and chipset drivers, using Dell's SupportAssist tool.
- Checked for any pending Windows updates and ensured that the operating system is up to date.
- Tested the behavior on battery power and while plugged in, with no success in either case.
Despite these efforts, the issue remains unresolved. I kindly request your assistance in diagnosing and resolving this problem. If there are any additional steps or configurations I should try, please let me know.
For your reference, the details of my laptop are as follows:
- Model: dell precision 5530
- Operating System: Windows 11
Thank you for your support. I look forward to your guidance in resolving this matter.
Best regards,
Shahzad Ali

Hi Shahzad,
Thank you for sharing the details of the issue and the steps you've already taken to troubleshoot your Dell Precision 5530. Since the problem persists despite your efforts, here are a few additional steps you can try to resolve the issue:
1. Check Power Plan Settings
Ensure that the active power plan is not overriding the "Close Lid" action:
2. Disable Fast Startup
Fast Startup may interfere with sleep mode. Try disabling it:
3. Test with Minimal Background Processes
Some applications or processes may prevent sleep mode.
4. Inspect Event Viewer Logs
Use the Event Viewer to identify errors related to power management:
5. Perform a Clean Boot
msconfig
, and hit Enter.6. Run Dell Diagnostics
To ensure there are no underlying hardware issues:
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be worth considering reinstalling Dell SupportAssist or resetting your Windows power settings to default using:
powercfg -restoredefaultschemes
Please update me on your findings. If the problem persists, feel free to share additional details, and we’ll be happy to assist further.
