Dell Precision 7560 w/ Ubuntu 20.04 LTS setup for data science - suspend issues
Hello,
I got my Dell Precision 7560 with an Nvidia RTX A2000 GPU and pre-installed Ubuntu 20.04 LTS for some research data science workloads. I only recently got to set it up properly, as the unit does not come preinstalled with the Nvidia data science stack. Unfortunately, after successfully setting up the Nvidia Data Science Stack, following this guide for setting up Dell data science workstations, I figured out that my battery life was beyond mediocre and, worst of all, suspend was not working properly. For instance, if I shut the lid, the computer never goes into suspend mode. Worse still, when I open it, all I see is Dell's logo (apparently a plymouth artefact?) with the computer completely unresponsive. The only way to recover is a cold reboot...
The guided install tutorial says that Dell have tested the Nvidia data science stack on their workstations, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Apparently, the default out-of-the-box setup is not data science-ready, so the question how to set up this machine properly to make actual use of its capabilities... Any suggestions on what could have gone wrong and how to fix it?
Thanks a lot!
