Dell Precision 7550 and 7750 System BIOS - 1.24.0 Breaks Docking Station USB C

After months of WD19S docking station not working due to a bios issue, Dell fixed it.

A new Forced windows update bios 1.24.0 now breaks USB C again.

The Docking station will only power through 1 USB not both at the same time!!!

The Laptop powers down at it can't provide enough power.

Also my screens don't work either.

Why don't dell test before release.. there is no roll back with this BIOS either so probably have wait another 6 -12 months to use the Dock and all the accessories attached.

Click on DELL- Nat M to start Conversation using Direct Messaging within new forum software. 

At the top of DELL- Nat M webpage, click on Private Messages. Direct Messaging webpage opens, go to text field at bottom of page. Type a message. When ready, click on RH arrow to send. Your message should appear.

Do not install new BIOS just because a new version is posted. Only install new BIOS version if it offers a feature you want or an application requests upgrade to a specific BIOS version.

Once the BIOS is upgraded to version 1.24.0, you cannot downgrade the BIOS to version 1.22.0 or earlier. BIOS downgrades are restricted when there are security updates and important fixes with earlier versions that impact the functionality of the system.

7550 with those same problems. Dell Support send me a new docking station. Didnt help. Not a surprise.

@DELL- Nat M​ I still have not received anything from anyone at Dell. We're going on 2 weeks now, and I have seen numerous people post here that they received a link from Dell to download and flash a 98.x.x version that would then allow them to download and flash the 1.23.1 version. Please have them send me the link to the 98.x.x version.

I have went through the "Get Help Now". After some checks, a motherboard replacement was offered, but i refused it (I can't risk to have my laptop stuck). During the chat with the agent, I noticed the possibilty of the downgrade using the dedicated procedure, but I didn't have any feedback about this possibility. I have only this identifier for the case <Private info removed>
May you help me to received the 98.x.x.x BIOS and downgrade it? Thanks.

Please read my previous post.  It lays out the process to get back to 1.23.1.  Take note that for the first step SOMEONE FROM DELL SUPPORT NEEDS TO REQUEST THIS FOR YOU AS AN EXCEPTION.  In my case our company has a ProSupport contract so we have a dedicated Dell team who submitted the request.  After that part the rest went smoothly and I am back up and running on 1.23.1 (took a few reboots and disconnect/reconnect the dock but it finally worked).

Also note the my Dell support person has told me that THE NEW BIOS IS EXPECTED ON SEP-07-2023.  But we all know how prompt Dell is so we'll see it they actually meet that date .....

Maybe you could put the instructions, as well as the release date, in a sticky at the top of the thread??

Many thanks for your clarification.
On my laptop I have a ProSupport active, so I proceed by myself to have some instructions (my IT agreed to proceed in this way). I wondered that was simpler to obtain the 98.x BIOS. I don't know if my company has a ProSupport contract, but I imagine that in yout case this helped to have a quick resolution.
Probably I need to wait for the next BIOS update, hoping that it will fix the issue.

If you have ProSupport active I would not wait.  Tell them about the rollback procedure - they should be able to find info on their end.  It's really just a matter of them sending you a link to a secure server to get the 98.x BIOS.  It seems to be a copy of the 1.24.0 BIOS but somehow overrides the rule not allowing you to roll back.  That's why you need to install 98 first (the USB ports still won't work after that reboot), then you can install 1.23.1 which is publicly available from Dell.  After the second reboot, and dock disconnect/reconnect, it seems to work.

Process for Downgrading BIOS (until the new BIOS version is released - ETA: mid-September):

- Contact Support through Get Help Now.

- PM me with the case number. If you are unable to PM me, let me know in this thread so that I can make the necessary correction on our end.

- Using the provided case number, I will get in touch with the responsible agent and request an exception.
