Dell Precision 7540 - RAID 1?

Hello!

I am thinking about buying used workstation, and Dell 7540 looks like the best choose. But I want to have two SSDs, joined RAID 1 system, and I could not find any information about 7540's ability to work in RAID 1 mode.

So I ask for answers users of 7540 or, probably, similar models: can your Dell works in RAID 1 mode? I think, it should be RAID options in BIOS or something like that.

RAID option in BIOS settings is for SATA operation mode.  If you want NVMe RAID (hardware RAID), it's available on more recent model workstations.

@Chino de Oro , thank you, this sounds interesting.

I found the manual for 7540:

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000137946/raid-configuration-for-dell-precision-mobile-workstations

And yes, it's really for SATA.

But Dell 7540 has only one SATA disk port, how could it be configured to RAID?

And what does "non-hardware RAID" means in this case? If it is simple software RAID, why does it need so strange manipulations in BIOS to run?

RAID option is feature of Intel storage controller.  Dell uses the option for Optane to boost HDD speed as well.

You can use Windows storage space to setup RAID volume for your NVMe SSD, to increase speed or create redundancy.  That is non-hardware RAID.
