Problem with RAM upgrade on Precision 3660 Tower
Hi,
I have a problem with upgrading RAM to an 3660 Tower (12700k, 16GB)
I checked crucial website for a compatible kit and found CT2K16G48C40U5 (2x16GB modules)
I bought it and installed the kit (I took out the Dell modules) and receive a orange/white blinking LED. It's blinking 2x orange and 5x white- which means "incorrect memory installed".
How can I fix it? Crucial says the RAM is compatible.
(have BIOS 1.2.38 installed)

Yep, exact same experience here with two different 3660 Towers, and two separate pairs of Crucial RAM, one 2x8GB and one 2x16GB. Same behaviour from both sets of RAM. Even tried each set in each machine, same. Sent all the Crucial RAM back and replaced with Kingston.
I have can confirm that both of the following do work with the 3660 Tower...
Kingston KCP548US6K2-16
Kingston KCP548US8K2-32

I had the same problem. I tried both Kingston and Crucial w/ exact same specs and got the 2x orange/5x white. Called Dell and they sent me to this site which made no sense because my box came installed w/ 4800 MHz (which the box specs confirm) but the site says it only supports 4400 MHz—https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/precision-3660-workstation/prec_3660t_ss/memory?guid=guid-e9d2ea83-38a4-431d-803c-96d63c1dbc34&lang=en-us.
I them bought a pair of PNYs that worked.

@space-hustle Wow! Who at DELL dropped that ball? And which is which? Is 4800 as my RAM chips also specify a lie? Is 4400mhz truly the max? This is dumb and DELL must fix their info, their bios, or the sticks in our machines.

Just got off the phone with Dell support... at no fault to the rep, I was told I need to contact their parts department to buy RAM from DELL at literally 3 times the price.

@nhatld
I finally found chips that work. I copied the vendor part number from Dell's website (SNPWMMC0C/32G) and found the chips for sale at literally 3 times less. (Dell = $299 Memory.net = $88)
SNPWMMC0C/32G - Dell 1x 32GB DDR5-4800 UDIMM PC5-38400U Dual Rank x8 Replacement (memory.net)
This is shameful of Dell. If this is the route they are taking I am going to rethink my push to be a DELL only company.
Sad. Dumb.

@ingallspw hey can you please confirm this will work for Dell 3660 workstation desktop? I’ll make an order but I live in NZ so don’t think I can return it if it doesn’t work. Many thanks in advance! I want get 2x 32g to make 64gb ram speed

Good news :-)
I tested two different models of common RAM modules - not overpriced Dell.
And both of them working :)
KCP548UD8-32 Kingston
is 32GB DDR5 module, no ECC. Works 1 module in singlechannel - 32GB at 4400 MHz. Works 2 modules at doublechannel - total 64GB at 4400 MHz. Works 4 modules at doublechannel - total 128GB at 3600 MHz.
KTD-PE548E-32G Kingston
is 32GB DDR5 module with ECC. Works 1 module in singlechannel - 32GB at 4400 MHz. Works 2 modules at doublechannel - total 64GB at 4400 MHz. Works 4 modules at doublechannel - total 128GB at 3600 MHz.
All combinations tested on Precision 3660 pn 3X3PH, i7-13700, BIOS 2.6.1
Problem solved :-)

Resurrecting this thread to say I had the same problem with Crucial RAM (CT32G48C40U5, 32GB DDR5-4800 UDIMM non-ECC) in a Precision 3660. Earlier mentions in the thread said that Crucial's site no longer listed Crucial items as compatible. When you go from the specific RAM part #, and run the compatibility check it comes back confirmed, but if you go the other route and drill down to Precision 3660 first you only get Micron items. Good site, Crucial!
It's not an issue with "Dell RAM" vs. 3rd party, because the box shipped with 4 x 8GB, and 2 are Hynix and the other 2 are Kingston! I guess I RMA the Crucial and buy Kingstong. Fun times!

I attempted to install a different module that was recommended by Memory Stock, but unfortunately, it did not work. The current module matches the same MHz speed and it worked perfectly.
32GB DDR5 4800MHz PC5-38400 CL40 UDIMM 2Rx8 1.1V Non-ECC Unbuffered DIMM 288-Pin Desktop RAM Memory Upgrade Module

When you search for RAM, use "Precision 3660 RAM" for a search term if you haven't done so already. If you want a specific brand, just add that to the search term. "ECC" or "non-ECC" can also be included.
While I've used A-Tech reliably for years, I haven't seen feedback from other users as to it's compatibility in newer Dell's.
For some reason, Crucial hasn't been working in some newer Dell's.
Brands that I can remember that have been working:
@redxps630 has been quite the expert on this and may have more to chime in.

Just to confirm:
Samsung 32Gb: M323R4GA3BB0-CQK works
One thing to note: Installed 2 modules (64Gb total), Windows 11 Task Manager initially reported a speed of 4000MHz, but after a couple of days, it now reports a speed of 4400MHz.

Hello. Will this RAM be compatible with the Dell Precision 3660 computer?
Kingston ValueRAM, DDR5, 64 GB, 4800MHz, CL40 (KVR48U40BD8K2-64 )
