Precision 5720 AIO Screen Noise
We have just started using our new Dell Precision 5720 AIO and noticed that when the room is completely quiet, there is a humming noise coming from the lower, center of the screen. The noise will change in pitch (frequency) when I adjust the screen brightness and will go away if i leave the screen brightness set to 100%. Noise also gone when the screen turns off and the AIO is still on. Is this normal operation? Do other users hear this noise? Is there a problem with my screen power supply (maybe the backlight driver or power supply in general)? Is there a problem with my AIO? Thank you for any feedback you can provide before I start talking to Dell.

My Precision 5720 have the same problem, when brightness is not 100%, screen produces noise. Can you please send the VBIOS link to me? I sent a PM.

This is a factory defect and can not be repaired. The best solution is to set up the Bios to switchable graphics. Then the computer uses CPU graphics by default and does not buzz. Buzzing is only with ATI graphics enabled.

I was having serious overheating issues, the fan was like a jet engine taking off, during programs like photoshop starting up and temps were mental, a while back my previous experience with Dell for an out of warranty XPS 2720 AIO via telephone support was so poor where I ended up advicing them, so will not call them at the premium rate charge and waste huge sums of money. Anyway, opened the back of the 5720 until I got to the cpu & gpu heatsink, could not see any physical issues, it did cross my mind that the contact between cpu & gpu to the heatsink might be compromised. I decided to remove the screws and look under the heat sink (one heatsink covers both cpu & gpu) to my utter shock the AMD gpu heatsink contact area with thermal paste still had the plastic protection cover on!!! (PLEASE VIEW ATTACHED IMAGES). I mean the sheer incompetence involved in this is unbelievable. The fact that they could leave a piece of packaging on the contact area!!! where by which the heat was not being transferred to the heat pipes and away was making the machine behave in a defunct way through overheating is one thing. But how they managed to get this through quality and safety controls is another thing altogether, as a result of the combination of effects the PWM function of the fan was going bonkers like a jet engine taking off. The thermal paste had dried up altogether and become hard & crumbly on both GPU & CPU as a result of the overheating and hence the machine was probably behaving even slower and jittering continuously. I have now cleared up the heatsink, applied new thermal paste and guess what? Idle temps are around 31celcius and load does not go past 40 during moving/image rendering and the screen noise is also not audible. Have a look at the images below the finishing of the copper heatsink contact areas, I mean this is really substandard craftsmanship by any standards, but Dell who charge a premium for these machines…. This is really really poor.

Hi !
I'm having exactly the same issue as what was explain (when brightness is not 100%, screen produces noise) but with my Dell P2314H 23" Widescreen LED Backlight IPS LCD Monitor. Is there a fix for this screen too ? It's driving me crazy !
Thank you !

Hi, have just flashed my amd bios, and it worked. Dont get blind by the pc anymore, and no more noise.
Look here.. https://www.dell.com/community/Laptops-Wiki/XPS-27-7760-Precision-5720-AIO-high-pitched-noise/ta-p/7276902
I used https://www.techpowerup.com/download/ati-atiflash/ to flash the bios. Just check what kind of GPU you have. Ellesmere Precision OR Baffin Precision.
