Dell Precision 5820 DDR4 2400T memory support
Hello,
In the near future, I would like to upgrade to 256gb of system memory. The intel xeon w2225 CPU spec sheet lists only one memory speed type, namely ddr4 2933 MHz. Does anybody know if 8 modules of "Sk Hynix 32gb 2rx4 pc4-2400t-rb2-11 hma84gr7afr4n-uh t2 ab 1649" would be compatible with dell precision 5820 ?
Much appreciated :)

Not sure why you would want to downgrade your system memory speed. Increasing the capacity but using slower speed memory will decrease your system performance. If pricing is dictating your choice, in the future, the price of DDR4 ECC RDIMM 2933 MHz will be lowered. Especially from used markets, parting out from decommissioned servers.
If the selection was made due to availability access or they already being acquired, then yes, those DDR4 2400 MHz are compatible and will work with your 5820. Lower speeds that are within the DDR4 JEDEC specification will work, but it won't be considered as a performance upgrade.

No, 2400 MHz is too slow.
For that system:

@ejn63 So you mean that for this CPU the ddr4 2933MHz is the minimum/only available requirement? I could not find anywhere the specific wording of that in any documentation..

It means that's the minimum speed. As you can see from the link, Crucial specifies 3200 will work as well (and guarantees it).
If you're going to buy other than from a vendor that guarantees compatibility, particularly with this model system, which has different CPU options, each of which uses a different memory type -- be sure you understand the seller's return policy.

A-Tech RAM is a good way to save money on somewhat older machines, yet it comes with a lifetime warranty. I've been using it reliably for years.
