Replacing failed drive with identical unit - reports incompatible
We have a failed drive on our powervault. Its one of 8 drives in a raid 5. We purchased a new drive - same speed, same size, same kind (Seagate - Cheetah - 15.7 - 15,000 rpm, 6Gbps, 6 Gig. When I insert the new drive the storage manager reports that the drive is Incompatible and unsupported.... It show a raw capacity of 558.912 and currently a usage capacity of the same... The drives that are in service show the same raw cap, but a usable cap of 553.412. I assumed that the drive would be formatted during the hot swap process. Do I need to prep this drive somehow before I insert it to make it compatible? The only other notable difference is the physical drive firmware - the in-service drives have a firmware of ES66. The new drive reports a firmware of 000B. Again I would expect the hot swap process to format and add the correct firmware - but clearly the san doesn't like this drive. Any ideas on how to get this resolved would be appreciated.
