Move MD1000 array to another server

Hi

I have a MD1000 attached to a PowerEdge R610 with a Perc 6/E running a domain joined Windows Server 2008 R2.

I need to move the MD1000 to a PowerVault NX with a Perc 5/E running a domain joined Windows Server UDS 2003.

The MD1000 only has share files with NTFS permissions.

Is it as simple as just power down the servers and attach the MD1000 to the "new" one? Will the files retain the NTFS permissions?

Thanks

Hello FamousRuler,

I would replace the battery in the Perc card first before moving the MD.  You should be able to move the MD & card & should be able to get your MD back online but is not recommended when you have a failed raid battery.  The issue is that the configuration is held on the Perc card & on the drives so you should be able to move & get all backup but have run into issues when have a failed Raid battery that cause the array not to show up after being moved.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello FamousRuler,

What you would want to do is to move the Perc 6/E card to the NX system so that you can retain the data.  If you were to just move the MD then your data might not show up & may need to do some reconfiguration.  Also it is not best practice to go back in generation of Perc’s as you can introduce new issues as well.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks, I just noticed the battery is reporting as failed. Can I still move the Perc 6/E card and MD1000 without loosing data? Is the configuration for the Perc sustained by the battery?
