ME4024 and controllers balance

Hello,

I'm currently trying to understand the way to make my ME4024 iscsi array balanced and avoid problems in the future.

I have this conf with 2 POOLS (conf suggested by the system during the configuration of the array):

POOL A : RAID 6 -> 15,5 To

POOL B ; RAID 1 -> 3,7 To

I needed only 15 To so the 3,7 are a bonus but it is said in the documentation that i need to balance the 2 LUNS and they should have the same size.

I have 2 questions :

- Can i put all my VMs on pool A until next year where i will have the budget to buy more disks or will i lose in performance? - Do i need to put hot spare disks on this conf or is it unecessary?

Thank you for your help

Dara.

Hello darant,

You could put all the VMs in PoolA.

In Virtual mode each controller owns it's own pool.

Pool resources would only move during a  failover.

Similarly, all the resources for Linear pool can be assigned to a controller and failover only as long as the owning controller is down.

There are customers that use single pool.  Two pools is only to make sure you use both controllers, but if you do not have enough drives to effectively have 2 pools, then 1 pool may be best.

Hot spare only covers normal RAID groups, not ADAPT. They are not required but suggested.  You can see information about ADAPT linked below.

I hope this helps. We don't typically assist in initial configuration. We have Deployment Services you can contract if needed by contacting Sales.
