Expand raid group
Hello all,
I have a power vault me5 with 10 disks. There I have a raid 5 raid group with 9 disks and 1 as hot spare.
We pretend to aquire 2 more disks to expand the existing raid group. Can this be done? If so how?
Thank you,

Hi,
You can expand the RAID group, but it needs to be ADAPT disk groups. Only ADAPT disk groups can be expanded in virtual pool mode. RAID 5 and RAID 6 disk groups cannot be expanded in virtual pool mode.
- To expand the capacity of a virtual pool that contains existing RAID 5 or RAID 6 disk groups, the administrator must add sufficient disks to create a new disk group.
- Navigate to "RAID Groups" > "Storage" > "Storage Configuration" > "Storage Pools" > "RAID Groups" Tab.
- Right-click the desired RAID Group LUN to be expanded.
- Select "Expand."
- Select the desired LUN Expansion Type: Striping or Concatenation.
- Select the desired Component LUN(s) you want to add to the Base LUN.
- Select the desired LUN User Capacity.
- Select the desired LUN settings, such as MetaLUN Name.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the expansion process.

Hello Joey,
is it possible to convert to an ADAPT disk group without downtime and data loss?

Hi,
As I know no, I say this inference because ADAPT disk groups use a different data layout compared to traditional RAID types. This means the data needs to be rewritten to the new format, which is a process that requires the disk group to be offline. White Paper: Dell PowerVault ME5 ADAPT Software (https://dell.to/3vWkK4K)
