Admin Password Reset on PowerVault MD3200i

I need to reset admin password on MD3200i that has two RAID controller with firmware 08.20.09.60. 

My understanding is the password reset switch functionality was disabled starting from controller firmware 08.20.09.60 .

So is my only option to use password rest cable and Putty? Will I be able to reset the password that way without losing my configuration or will that reset my whole unit to factory settings?

Yes, starting from controller firmware 08.20.09.60 and later versions, the password reset switch is not available.

Since I don't have the cable, Is downgrading the firmware an option?

Do you have access now without the password reset to do the firmware downgrade?

Never Mind. I forgot that I need the Admin password to do any firmware upgrade or downgrades.

I was able to finally get a hold of a cable and followed the steps you recommended. However, I get as far as launching the putty session, but then when I press ctrl+break follow by capital "S" nothing happens. any thoughts?Screenshot_1.png

Do you have the same issue on both controllers? Did serial cable you use now come with the system?

I have the same issue on both controllers and I'm using the same serial cable that came with my servers

Thank you for your reply. 

The  lowercase "s" will not be recognized for this command only capital "S", could you please check, is capital "S" chosen.

Hello Budarpu,

 

In your screenshot there is line Password Incorrect. It shouldn't be here, did you try to enter password?

 

Could you please also share, which version of controller is installed?
