Hi – please see emc291645
PowerPath must be removed from the ESXi4.x host, upgrade the ESX host to 5.0, then install PowerPath 5.7.x. Full procedure below.
1. First unregister the PowerPath VE from rpowermt server/license server.
a. # rpowermt unregister host= command to verify license status.

sorry, my answer got cut off in the system... here is the procedure (From Primus emc291645)
a. # rpowermt unregister host=
a. If the System Host ID changed for some reason, then Unserved license needs to "rehost" with the correct System host ID.
You can access to the Powerlink account to do "rehost" to reactivate the Unserved license with the correct System host ID.
If the System Host ID stays the same, then the previous Unserved license file can use to register this host again.
b. The System Host ID does not apply for Served license file
a. Take note that RTools (rpowermt) version 5.4 will not work with PPVE 5.7, so upgrading RTOOLS is not optional.
a. Run rpowermt command valid for autoregistration to register PowerPath VE on ESXi hosts from rpowermt server/ license server.
For example: Run the rpowermt display paths host= command.
b. Run the rpowermt check_registration host= command to verify license status.

Hi! Did you get the Release Notes from Powerlink? You can find them here:
Home > Support > Technical Documentation and Advisories > Software ~ P-R ~ Documentation > PowerPath Family > PowerPath/VE > Release Notes
It will cover how to upgrade the environment.
