Power Path Queries

Dear Experts,

I have four queries - (Posted in Clarion , kelleg recommnded to post HostSsytem fourum to get more ideas)

1)      1) We have   8 SUN (oracle Servers) 4 are in SUN cluster. Each server has Two HBA.  Can anyone please I have idea   how many power path licenses required?   I believe one server require one power path license.

2)    2)   After  server crash if we re-installing OS can we use same powerpath License, or need to get new one (if the license is under warranty). Need to pay for that?

3)      3) What are the anticipated issues related to powerpath, that customer required support from vendor.  In my two year experience powerpath never give any issues. “Powermt display always shows “0” error.

4)     4)  Solaris have   own mutilating tool “stmsboot”. What are advantages EMC Powerpath over the “stmsboot”

Best regards,

Muneer.

Dynomyx Updated : Would be great if i get more inpuit.

1) PowerPath is licensed based on CPU count, there is also a distinction between x86 vs non-x86. PowerPath/VE has a different pricing model as well. Better get in touch with your sales team

2) You can re-use the same powerpath key

3) That's the good thing about PowerPath, it's very low maintenance, as long as everything is licensed and correct policy is set, there is nothing to maintain. (try to keep up with new versions and new features/patches come out)

4) PowerPath has more intelligence built-in into it, it provides better load-balancing, failover/failback

Hello,

Just wanted to add, if the storage is EMC, powerpath policies will be most the most efficient policies with EMC storage.

hi,

there are several license types: per cpu, per server, per site etc.

The recommeneded option is to either ask your local team who can advise you on the best option to take, or send an email to 'licensekeys@emc.com' who are experienced in dealing with these issues,

thanks,
