Migration , when to install powerpath
Hi
what I have Now?
some
HPUX hosts with securepath or MPIO
Solaris hosts with Securepath or Native SUN MPIO
Window Hosts with securepath or MPIO
ESX with VNMP
linux with MPIO
all connected to HP XP-12K storage system
we will replace this HP XP-12K with VMAX 2 engines , and we will use host based migration (LVM or OpenMigartor) , and we need to install powerpath on theses hosts
i have some question
can i have powerpath and another multipaths tool installed on the same OS during migration ?
if not
how should i do it ?
if yes ?
how should i do it for HP-UX . HPUX powerpath dont create psued names ?

Are you doing a host based migration (using robocopy or some other third party app to copy the data)? If so what we did was just setup 1 path to copy the data throughout a window. This way we didn't need powerpath installed to manage paths. Once all the data was synced and we had our window for the outage we installed all necessary software, powerpath, hba driver upgrades, removed old failover software, and so on.
That was the general process we used for our Windows servers.

Hello,
In regards HPUX, I do not believe that PP and securepath can be installed at the same time on a HP server.
Available on powerlink are the Powerpath Installation guides for each Operating System which may be of assistance. They are located at (Menu Options):
Home > Support > Technical Documentation and Advisories > Software ~ P-R ~ Documentation > PowerPath Family > PowerPath > Installation/Configuration.
Also each operating system has a Host Connectivity Guide which can be found on powerlink at:
Home > Support > Technical Documentation and Advisories > Host Connectivity/HBAs > Installation/Configuration
Hope this helps.

Not sure I've ever heard of VNMP. Though I'm not a vmware admin by any stretch so maybe someone else will know more.

Hi. I believe that this is VMware native multipathing. I've never seen it called VNMP, but that is my guess.
