emcpadm getfree show different Pseudo names on two different cluster nodes

Hi,
I have got Linux box in Cluster which are using emcpower devices under veritas and i need to allocate the additional storage to the clluster and am facing problem with the power device naming convention. I checked emcpadm getfree and it shows me different set of free devices on both the nodes, now once i allocate the lun, it will get the naming accordingly, but i need to have the same naming on both sides, so apart from emcpadm rename, is there any other way i can get the getfree nodes same on both the nodes ??

I checked on this and seems like once veritas is installed , there always seems to be some issue renaming the emcpower devices, the primus tells us to un-install the PP & VRTS and then try renaming it :( which on a production box is next to impossible. So we have just added the emcpower devices with different names on the cluster nodes and thats working fine for us.

Hi Bhat. With VxVM, since the emcpower devices are held open by VxVM, emcpadm rename will fail. Stop the event daemon, deport the disk group, run vxdisk rm on each of underlying disks, rename the devices, restart the event daemon and then reimport the disk group. The procedure is similar to what is required to remove PowerPath device that is under VxVM control.

However, if you're using VxVM volumes in the cluster it doesn't actually need to have the same emcpower names on every node. VxVM takes care of keeping the volume/disk group names consistent across the cluster.

What is the Primus number to which you referred?

Thanks, Brion

Hi Brion,
I had actually gone through those steps of deport/re-import of the dg's , but was not able to rename the devices. That's when i called up an EMC guy and he told me you can keep different emcpower devices on the cluster nodes, it's been working fine for me now.
