Configure AIX boot from SAN

I have AIX 7.1 host running PP 6.1 and connect to a VMAX.  Both ODM and PP do not require any upgrade.    The host is not boot from SAN.  We are going to migrate this host to a new VMAX and customer want to take this opportunity to convert the host to boot from SAN.  I would like to know whether this is the correct migration step.

1. Assign a new LUN from old VMAX so that sysadmin can mirror his rootvg to the new SAN disk.  Setup SRDF replication so that the new LUN is also replicated over to new VMAX during cutover.

2. After complete the mirroring of rootvg, there is no need to put the rootvg under PP control yet pprootdev on is not required.

3. sysadmin will configure AIX boot (use the hdisk rather than hdiskpower) to test the rootvg from old VMAX is OK.

4. shutdown the servers and perform SRDF final sync.  Split and delete the SRDF pair..

5. Present the migrated rootvg from new VMAX with only one rootvg LUN and single paths.  Once the server is up, rmdev any devices in the defined state.  Reboot the server and enable all paths and data LUNs from new VMAX.

6. Once the server is boot up, perform pprootdev on it should put the rootvg under pp control.   Based on the connectivity guide, there is boot_change.tar but I can't see to locate it.  The script suppose to change existing VMAX ODM definition to other FC SCSI disk drive.

Please open a service request asking for the boot_change script.

It is available through support while we work to get it back to the FTP and hopefully the product page under tools downloads.
