Windows 2012 on PowerEdge T710

Will Windows 2012  install on a PowerEdge T710?  Is there a Systems Management Tools and Documentation version that will have drivers for a  PERC 6/i and Windows 2012?

Greg,

The T710 does support Server 2012 (Standard & Datacenter). As far as the SMTD disk, it was stopped around the release of Server 2008 as the drivers for our controllers are already present on the OS media. Allowing you to just boot to the OS media. The same applies to 2012. So you should be able to boot directly to the media to install.

On another note, support.dell.com does have a OS dropdown which has Server 2012, so we have drivers released for that OS as well.

Let me know how it goes.

Actually, Chris's response is incomplete. There is support for Win 2012 in the SMTD and the current version is 7.2 A01, which was posted to the support site on jan 2013.

Yes I found it before... and it is labeled OMSA, which let to my question about the difference between OMSA and SMTD. So can I boot from a DVD made from the OM_SMTD_720_A01.iso and install Windows 2012 on our T710?

Sorry ... wasn't sure if you'd get to this before me ;)

the SMTD contains the OpenManage Server Administrator application (omsa) and can help you perform an OS installation and fw updates all in one process.

OpenManage is a suite of different applications:

OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA) is the management/monitoring software installed in the OS; every supported system should have this installed where possible.

Systems Build and Update Utility (SBUU) is a bootable utility used to assist in updating the system firmware from outside of the OS and/or installing a supported OS, complete with drivers, RAID config, etc.

Systems Management Tools and Documentation (SMTD) is a bootable all-in-one DVD utility that includes SBUU, OMSA, and other utilities.

Server Updates Utility (SUU) is a non-bootable update package repository for use with SBUU; it can also be run from inside a supported OS to update drivers and firmware.

What is the difference between OpenManage Server Administrator and Systems Management Tools and Documentation?

OK, where can I download a version of  Systems Management Tools and Documentation that supports Windows 2012?

Ha ... the description IS for OMSA ... there are a few typos out there right now as they are trying to clean up a messy something-or-other that happened to the Support Site some time ago.

That's the one you want though.  Just boot to the SMTD DVD first and follow the prompts.  2012 probably is not difficult to install on here from the OS DVD either.
