Server 2012R2 Hyper-V USB Boot not working

I'm trying to setup a 30GB USB device as the boot device for my Dell R730 but I've encountered a problem I cannot resolve.  When I setup the device to be the boot for the system it attempts to boot but I get the error "Windows Failed to Start" "File: \windows\system32\drivers\wdf01000.sys / Status 0xc0000221.  If I take the same USB device and plug it in to my R415 it boots up no problem. I've tried everything I can think of but it just will not boot past this message.  Anyone got any ideas what is going wrong here?

Hi,

Was the OS installed while connected to the R730? The correct chipset drivers may not be installed.

No, we are setting up the OS on a USB device to use as the boot disk.  We created the boot USB and VHD as per the Microsoft Instructions here

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/jj733589(v=ws.11).aspx

Is it possible to inject the missing drivers into the VHD file so we can boot from the USB into 2012R2 Hyper-V?
