PowerEdge T410: can I add a hardrive independently from the existing RAID0?
I just bought an used server in the classifieds. Presently, I've got a RAID0 with 4 drives with 300GB each that I use for hosting virtual machines with Proxmox PVE and a 120GB SSD as boot drive where Proxmox is installed. I got an extra 1TB drive with the machine that I'd like to use for backups. At boot time, the server's config menu (using Ctrl+R) only offers to use the 1TB drive as a "hot spare" for the RAID, are there any other options?

There's no point in assigning a disk as a hotspare for a RAID 0. If you want to use the volume within your OS, you'll need to create a new virtual disk to do so. This is done within the Ctrl+R config utility. The 11th generation servers didn't have another location to deploy a virtual disk from, apart from using OpenManage within the OS.

Presently, the Ctrl+R config utility only allows for one virtual disk, so to create a new one for the 1TB drive I'd have to delete the RAID0, which wouldn't help, as I need it.
I helped myself by cramming both the SSD and the 1TB HDD below the DVD-writer in the 5.25'' bay, disconnecting the DVD-writer, and plugging the SSD/HDD into SATA ports A and B on the mainboard. I've ordered a 6x 4pin power splitter and a 7pin SATA cable, so I can reattach the DVD-writer. With more SATA cables I could even add more HDDs to the remaining free 3 SATA ports, provided I can find room for them, likely at the bottom inside the machine. Not pretty but it does the job.
