OME catalog difference
Hi Community,
Can somebody explain what is the difference between those 2 catalogs in OpenManage ?
"ESXi Catalog for Enterprise Servers" new one pushed every quarter
"Lifecycle Controller Catalog for Enterprise Servers" new one pushed every week
What is the benefit of going with "Lifecycle Controller Catalog for Enterprise Servers" on an ESXi servers ?
I suppose we are breaking the validation done by Dell for the hardware firmware against the ESXi OS, right ?
We see additional firmware updates like NIC Intel firmware ones and additional disk firmware (Intel Youngster), that don't seem to be present in the ESXi one. Why are those updates not present in the "ESXi Catalog for Enterprise Servers" ? They need to be aligned as well at some point, no ? Does anyone have an answer on this ?

Hi,
the difference is how you update your server and which you prefer.
For customers without VMware, we offer to use Lifecycle controller.

Do you have any further questions?

Thank you Martin but this does not answer the question, let me rephrase. This is in the scenario where you update an ESXi OS with the "Lifecycle Controller Catalog for Enterprise Servers".
I've more firmware updates available in the "Lifecycle Controller Catalog for Enterprise Servers" than in "ESXi Catalog for Enterprise Servers" for the exact same PowerEdge model, like for instance for NIC Intel firmware. The question is why this difference ? If the ESXi catalog is validated against the ESXi OS, why the NIC Intel is not part of it (to take an example) ?

Hello Solmil,
The ESXi catalog is for the VMWare HCL. The intent of this catalog is to announce the recommended firmware versions for Dell customized versions of VMware ESXi for various server models and peripherals. So really best practices for ESXi environments. ESXi Catalog is posted quarterly for validation purposes.
The LCC Enterprise Servers is weekly one is the newest as of that week for all Enterprise servers and may not have been validated yet for Dell customized versions of VMware ESXi.
