Cannot install server 2008 R2 on PowerEdge 840 with Perc 5i RAID controller

Tryig to upgrade PE 840 server running Server 2003 R2 Standard to Server 2008 R2. (My current) Dell Open Manage for PE 840 does not include support for Server 2008.  When I try to boot/run ISO from DVD, message says no hard drives found. Any suggestions to update the hardware RAID controller to support this install?

If the link above doesn't work, you can go to ftp.dell.com/secure then sysman folder, then find file name OM_6.5.0_SMTD_A01.iso.002.

or try:

http://ftp.dell.com/secure/sysman/OM_6.5.0_SMTD_A01.iso.002

You can always download the latest version of the OpenManage installation utility:

Systems Management Tools and Documentation (SMTD - Recommended; mind the "Installation Instructions on the download page for each DVD ISO image):

support.dell.com/.../format.aspx<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed / replaced from this post by Dell>

Or...

Installing directly from the OS DVD, 2008 R2 should have the drivers for the PERC 5, so the only thing you need to watch out for is you need to configure RAID BEFORE attempting to install the OS.  Do this in the CTRL-R utility during POST ... be sure to check the Advanced and Initialize boxes.

Thank you. I am having difficulty getting the dowload to initate for the second ISO file listed in the link above. The first file downloaded just fine.

In your second suggesstion, are you indicating that the PERC 5i driver is (should already be) already present in the 2008 R2 ISO file? Or, do I need to add it to the ISO and re-compile? My ISO for 2008 R2 is not an OEM file, it is a direct download from Microsoft.

Thank you again.

OEM, Retail makes no difference in the native drivers ... it should be on there ... you just have to make sure you have configured RAID in CTRL-R before attempting to install, otherwise, driver or not, it will make no difference.  Dell OEM disks are simply rebranded disks with some minor changes - OEM BIOS check, oobe stuff, etc. - they neither add nor remove drivers or functionality from the disks.

Try the direct link here:

ftp.dell.com/.../OM_6.5.0_SMTD_A01.iso.002

Up and running now. Only one note, I needed to re-arrange the startup search order for the system BIOS devices in order for the DVD drive to allow the bootable ISO disk to run before loading the existing system OS. I had the PERC 5 controller listed first. My oversight. Thanks for the help!
