RAID controller error
Hi all,
I have a Dell PowerEdge R740 server which has unexpectedly failed with the following error:
RAC0501: There are no physical disks to be displayed.
1. Ensure that the supported physical drives are inserted into the enclosure or attached to the backplane.
2. Make sure that the latest iDRAC firmware is installed.
3. Reset iDRAC to its initial state. To reset, click Maintenance > Diagnostics > Reset iDRAC to Factory Defaults. Run the RACADM command at the Command Line Interface (CLI): racadm racresetcfg.
4. Restart the server. To restart, click Configuration > Power Management > Power Control > Power Cycle System (cold boot). Run the RACADM command at the Command Line Interface (CLI): racadm server action power cycle.
5. Make sure that the host server is powered on.
I tried to replace the PERC card but the issue remains the same. Is there anyone with the solution? I would be grateful if someone could help with this.
Having a lot of issues since the server has been down for almost a month.
Thanks,

Hi @Durga Mukhia,
It seems that you have already done most of the troubleshooting that could resolve the issue. Since the server is under warranty, I suggest making a call to the support to create a ticket for warranty hardware replacement, probably a mainboard replacement is needed. They may suggest collecting logs from the server for their analysis.

Hello @Durga Mukhia,
In fact, the recomendations written on the error message are accuarate and should be a point to start. Did you try those steps? For example, which is your iDRAC firmware? Is it up to date? When you try to reset the iDRAC (How to Reset the Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC)? https://dell.to/3IZfGij ). Is the PERC visible after an iDRAC reset? I see you mentioned that you replaced the PERC. Is the server out of warranty? Did you handle yourself the replacement? Did you checked the cables and connections when you performed this operation?
Regards.

Hi Diego,
The server is still under warranty. We have updated the iDRAC and BIOS firmware to the latest one. The PERC is still not visible after the replacement.
Waiting for your favorable reply.

Hello @Durga Mukhia.
The support channels may depend on the country you are contacting Dell from. So I suggest you to go to Dell Contact webpage and then select your country:
https://dell.to/3zxYj54 . Here, you will be able to write down your server's service tag and check the contact methods you have available.
Regards.
