Raid 10 Disk Expansion on PERC H730P Adapter (Embedded)
Hello Everyone,
We have Dell PowerEdge T640 with PERC H730P Adapter (Embedded). We have Raid 10 setup with 12 hard drives each with 2TB storage capacity. We recently added 6 more hard drives with 2TB each but when we try to expand the available storage using the disk controller, we don't get the option to reconfigure disks. We have the latest firmware installed on server. Any support is much appreciated.
Below are the options we get from iDRAC9.
Thanks,
Parminder

Hello thanks for choosing Dell. According to this document here, looks like it's up to 32.

Dear Young E,
Thank you for sharing the link. Based on the information provided, it appears that the maximum number of drives supported is 32. However, our server only has 18 hard drive bays.Reconfigure option is not visible under the controller.
I would appreciate it if you could suggest any alternative solutions to help us expand our storage capacity.
Thank you,
Parminder

Hey Young E,
We tried the exact same steps under the video shared by you but still we do not see the reconfigure option. Also as per this article https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-ca/poweredge-rc-h730p/perc9ugpublication/reconfigure-virtual-disks?guid=guid-aad79692-439f-4743-bfbe-1f054957cd49&lang=en-us we added a bigger hard disk and rebuild it. After rebuilding we still don't see an option to reconfigure the virtual disk to increase the capacity of our Raid 10 setup.
As per this guide https://dl.dell.com/content/manual9961157-dell-emc-poweredge-raid-controller-9-user-s-guide-h330-h730-and-h830.pdf?language=en-us we should see the reconfigure disk option but that's not the case

Hello would you be able to show us your idrac so that we can see your RAID configuration?

Hi Young,
Please review the pdf file from idrac with raid configuration at https://drive.google.com/file/d/15_f8YlQVU_DZGbzHIxlI7ZFSa0PkIUtF/view?usp=sharing . Let me know if you need any other information from my end.
Appreciate all your help.
Thanks,
Parminder

Hello Parminder Benipal,
Do you have a sliced array?
Online Capacity Expansion won't work on an array that is sliced.

Hi Charles,
Thank you for quick reply, where I can check this info under idrac if we have sliced array or not?
Thanks,
Parminder

I would say you click on the highlighted in yellow that says Create Virtual Disk (I used your attachment) then start from there.
Also this link may help:

Hi Young & Charles,
Do you think the span depth = 6 is the reason we don't see an option to reconfigure Virtual disk or Edit Disk capacity?

Hello Parminder Benipal,
Have you taken a look at the System Setup and checked that everything looks like it does in the tutorial video that was provided?
