Dell PE740xd RAID configuration issue

Hi, I have Dell Power Edge 740xd with 2 x SSD in FlexBay and 12xSATA HDDs in front drive bays. I configure RAID1 using SSDs and install OS on this VD successfully. But when I configure RAID5 on 12x SATA drives, RAID1 disappears completely (erased) and system does not boot (which is obvious). So am I making a mistake or is it a firmware bug?

We have similar setups (also R740xd) and normaly its not problem to setup multible  VDs and different diskgroups.

The VD is gone or is only the boot order now different?

I can see VD of SSDs on iDRAC having status "Ready" but NOT visible in boot order/sequence. The other VD of SATA HDDs has status of "Online" and available in boot sequence but I do not want to use this VD as boot drive.

If you remove the VD on the SATA Raid does the VD comes usable again?

Is the BIOS mode  UEFI or BIOS?

Hi, How did you create multiple RAIDs on R740XD? I mean did you use PERC H730 mini's own BIOS or another method? I recommend using UEFI boot.  What do you see in boot order? please be ensure you have set the correct boot sequence in the BIOS/UEFI to ensure the system boots from the RAID1 array containing the OS.

Hi folks, The BIOS Boot Mode is UEFI, VD of SSDs is NOT there (my mistake) but SSDs are in "Ready" state. SSDs are visible/listed in Physical Disk Configuration but when I try to create a new VD, the SSDs DO NOT appear in list. I am using both Lifecycle Controller and iDRAC to configure VDs.

In boot order there is ONLY one VD which is of HDDs

Hmm... the VD belonging to RAID1 seems to be lost. Can you enter the PERC's own BIOS when UEFI is selected? If you can and nothing has been written to the SSDs belonging to the old VD, if you use the same SSDs you used in RAID1 again and give the same VD name as the previous one and do not initialize it, there is a possibility that the old VD can be used again. If it is too late for this, I suggest you create a new VD(with initialized) from the PERC BIOS, set the boot order later and use it. If you cannot enter the PERC BIOS in UEFI, you can put the BIOS in legacy, make the necessary adjustments and return to UEFI.
