Clear Foreign Configuration does not work

Hi, we have a PowerEdge server with 8 SAS disks in the storage (I attach a screen for the model) that were previously configured on the same server but after a reboot for hardware activities they all entered the Foreign state and we cannot restore them.
Trying with the procedure:
Chassis Overview -> Storage -> Controller -> Setup -> Clear Foreign Configuration
The system returns to the page without any effect.
I add some other information:
- There are 8 other SSD disks that are not compatible (we have to replace them), I do not know if they can create problems for the storage by continuing to be installed;
- We tried to remove one and connect it via SATA/SAS adapter to a laptop but it is not recognized (OS Windows)
What is the procedure to restore the disks or what are we doing wrong? There was no important data yet so we can safely clean everything and restore from the beginning.

Thanks in advance.
Tiziano.

Hi,

The "Clear Foreign Configuration" option not working can be caused by several factors. Here are some potential solutions to try:

1. Check Disk Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the SAS disks are compatible with the unknown server's controller. If they are not, you may need to replace them.
  • Verify that the disks are properly connected to the controller and that there are no loose or damaged cables.
  • Collect and provide as many informaton before answering here again.

2. Verify Controller Settings:

  • Check the controller's settings to make sure they are configured correctly for the type of disks you are using.
  • Look for any error messages or warnings in the controller's logs.

3. Try a Different Controller:

  • If possible, try using a different controller to see if it can recognize the disks. This can help isolate the issue.

4. Update Controller Firmware:

  • Check for and install any available firmware updates for the controller. This can sometimes resolve compatibility issues.

5. Check Disk Health:

  • Use a diagnostic tool to check the health of the disks. If any of the disks are physically damaged, they may need to be replaced.

6. Try a Different OS:

  • If possible, try booting the server with a different operating system to see if it can recognize the disks. This can help rule out OS-specific issues.
