Problem with iDRAC controller in PowerEdge R620.

Good morning, Today, an unruly user accidentally turned off the UPS that was supporting the PowerEdge R620 server. Unfortunately, after starting the server, something happened to the iDRAC controller https://ibb.co/b21mt3T In this situation, I decided to enter the iDRAC settings, but unfortunately the message "swc0700 idrac is not ready" appeared there. I decided to update the IDRAC7 controller, but unfortunately another error appeared: https://ibb.co/Gs1DTg7 Windows Server 2016 is installed on the server. In this situation, I decided to perform a restore using this instruction: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000120131/poweredge-idrac-recovery-procedure-with-firmimg-d7, but also here, unfortunately, after formatting the card with FAT and uploading the appropriate file to it the server did not update automatically despite restarting. Do you have a proven solution to this problem in this situation? Maybe this iDRAC can be turned off somehow, because because it doesn't work properly, the fans are still running at full speed, Regards, Luke

Hello,

I'm sorry to see you have an iDRAC initialization error. I can't say if the issue was caused from the unexpected shutdown or if it was just revealed after the unexpected shutdown.

I see you have already tried recovery procedure with the .d7 file.

I'll outline a few more troubleshooting steps to try in the order listed:

Export copy of you iDRAC Enterprise license to keep on hand, when you can access the DRAC.

*Check your firmware for iDRAC and BIOS, try to update if you are not current.

R620 Drivers & Downloads : https://dell.to/49ySrrt

*Reset iDRAC - hold in the 'i' Button for 20 seconds, the DRAC should reboot, wait about 3 minutes.

Check results.

*drain flea power (shut down, disconnect power cables and Network cables, hold in power button 20 seconds with cords removed). After flea power drain, system has to set for 3 minutes for DRAC to reset without any power plugged in, then plug in NIC and power but wait 2 minutes before power on to give DRAC time to initialize.

Check if it boots with no error?

*Clear NVRAM

-shut down. check the map under the lid and find the NVRAM jumper. Set it to the Clear position. Turn on server to the error about the jumper. Shut down and return jumper to default location.

You may have to reconfigure any custom BIOS settings like Boot order, Boot mode.

Check if it boots with no error?

*Reset DRAC to defaults

Note your DRAC settings then reset DRAC to defaults. After that reconfigure the DRAC and check results.

Boot to F2 > iDRAC Settings > Reset iDRAC configurations to defaults. Save exit reboot to <F2> again to configure

Boot to F2 > iDRAC Settings > Network.

Configure IP, Subnet and Gateway.

Set connection being used i.e. LOM1, Dedicated

Default credentials are user: root, password: calvin.

Test results

The DRAC is integrated to the system board, so if it is failed it would need a system board replacement.

@Dell -Charles R Hi, Tell me, if I transfer the .d7 file to an SD card that is formatted in FAT and then insert it into the SD slot, should iDRAC start restoring itself or do I need to restart the computer?

Hello,

It should be done from a power up so the DRAC can boot to it.

I would drain the flea power, insert the SD then power up:

*drain flea power (shut down, disconnect power cables and Network cables, hold in power button 20 seconds with cords removed)

After flea power drain, system has to set for 3 minutes for DRAC to reset without any power plugged in,

Install the SD card now

then plug in NIC and power but wait 2 minutes before power on to give DRAC time to initialize.

See if it boots to the SD card.
