PowerEdge R620 - can't detect SAS drives
I was hoping to see if anyone has had this issue I'm facing below or if anyone can assist me.
I have PowerEdge R620 with a PERC 710 mini Raid adapter installed. The machine has VMWare installed on it from the factory and I believe this is installed on the internal sd card. I purchased 4 brand new SAS drives to be installed on the machine, but every time I slide the drives to the disk bay, I get a message on the server display.
"Fault detected on Drive 0" when I insert a new one to another bay "Fault detected on Drive 1" and so on...
I also get this during the BIOS boot -
"0 virtual drives found on by bios"
"0 virtual drives found on host adapter"
I was hoping to install a new OS on it, and because of this, I cannot proceed.
Thanks

Hi,
What model drives are they? Are they Dell drives? Is the firmware up to date on the controller?

No, they are not Dell drives. They are Fujitsu Limited 146G 2.5 SAS 10K. Model - MBB2147RC
I've also tried using - HP 432320-001 146GB SAS
And I get the same message.
Is the firmware up to date on the controller?
The firmware on the controller - I never updated, all I did was install the RAID Controller.
Current firmware - 21.3.2-0005
I've also included a screenshot of the firmware currently installed on the system.
Thanks

Did you have other drives in the system previously? Was the controller the onboard controller previously?

Did you have other drives in the system previously?
No, the system came with no drives
Was the controller the onboard controller previously?
No, the system came without a controller so I purchased one later on.
Thanks

Did you replace the cables when you changed controllers?

There were no cables for me to replace - the controller just plugs straight into the socket.
Here is the controller I have below

How is the backplane connected? Is it showing the drives in the PD mgmt.?

Here is a picture of the system.
And as far as I know, it's not showing any drives when I do ctrl+R if that's what you talking about.
Thanks

See connector 22, it doesn’t look like the backplane is connected to that https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/us/en/04/poweredge-r620/r620systemownersmanual-v1/system-board-connectors?guid=guid-d4894de8-1313-4cfd-a9dd-69f4390de089&lang=en-us

I've annotated the picture based of the manual you sent me. From where I've circled in "yellow", is that what the connector 22 is (SATA connector)?
What about the one I've circled in red? I thought that's the connector coming from the backplane.
Also if connector 22 in "yellow" needs to be connected, how would I make that connection? Thanks

actually, it looks like he has the 4 HD bay version of the R620, so he really needs cable WVF6J. Here are some pics of my system configured like he's trying to get to:
