PowerEdge R420 - System Detected an Exception During the UEFI pre-boot environment

Please see my attached screenshot for more detail regarding this error.  And just incase someone it tempted to ask I did input this into ChatGPT and got this back:

The error message "RIP B66D0DA9 AHCI.EFI + 00CDA9" is a type of Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) error that occurs during the UEFI pre-boot environment. It usually indicates a problem with the AHCI driver (Advanced Host Controller Interface), which is responsible for controlling the communication between your computer's storage devices and the rest of the system.

To troubleshoot this issue, you can try the following steps:

  1. Check if there are any new firmware updates for your computer's storage devices. These updates may include fixes for issues related to the AHCI driver.

  2. Try to restore the default settings of your BIOS. To do this, restart your computer and press the key to access the BIOS setup screen. Look for an option to reset the settings to their default values, and then save and exit the BIOS.

  3. Check if your storage devices are properly connected. Make sure that all cables are firmly attached and that the devices are not loose.

  4. Try booting into safe mode. Safe mode loads the operating system with only basic drivers and services, which can help you identify any software conflicts that may be causing the exception.

  5. If none of the above steps work, you may need to reinstall the AHCI driver or perform a clean installation of your operating system.

But I can't find that driver and I also have idea how to go about installing it once I do. Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Hello thanks for choosing Dell. Is there any extra cards plugged into?

Hi DELL-Young E

I was actually finally able to figure this out. Yes, I was attempting to use a PCIe adapter to an M.1 drive when the error first came up.What threw new off is naturally I assumed that was the problem and removed it but the error persisted after reboot. I then pulled the CMOS battery and switched the NVRAM jumper. this allowed me to at least boot in BIOS mode but when I switched back to UEFI it did the same thing. I repeated the steps above, installed and OS (in BIOS mode), downloaded the latest BIOS updates  installed them via the OS and rebooted. Only after that was I able to UEFI boot mode again with out issue.
