What slots should I install with 32Gb dimms to have 256Gb?
And if they were 16Gb modules?

Hello,
Based on the memory population guidelines, that is correct! For more information see pages 129 - 134 of the Users' Guide: https://dell.to/43XkUnD
Based on this table, I would say 8GB memory module is the best.

I am not seeing a 32G 1.35v DIMM validated for the R710.
The largest I see are 16G.
